This was a fun project. The fine people at MalixMedia (Director Alex Reinhard, Producer Max Morgan) and DP Joe Grasso crafted an interesting concept for this music video. Problem solving is the name of the game. This project presented two unique challenges while working as a gaffer. 1) How do we trigger the air cannon? and 2) How do we rig our lights so the stands and lights are not in the shot? I love tinkering and building diy projects. So when I pitched the team the idea of a confetti cannon that the actor can trigger, they were all in. Behind the scenes look at filming a project by yourself, during COVID-19. Working alone presents its own challenges, but if you have the right equipment, your job becomes easier (most of the time). Let's start by addressing the gear used (which was totally overkill) to complete this project. Our camera was the hallowed Alexa Mini, paired with an Atlas Orion 40mm 2X Anamorphic, T2 lens (woo wee). Since we were putting a teleprompter in front of our camera and lens combo (gross, I know), the 40mm was too wide for our teleprompter. 1-800-Pack-Rat Project

Recently, I filmed a small series of spots for Pack Rat, along with the help of my talented friends, Adam Hribar & Tom Carson (info to their work below): Adam: https://www.adamhribar.com/info Tom: https://carson.film/ For most of the interview segments, we used a fairly simple technique of using silk to soften the light, and a bounce card to return ambient light By modifying natural light with a 6x6 frame of Magic Cloth, and filling from the shadow side with an Aputure 300Dii (with an egg crate), we were able to achieve a natural-looking image for this project.
